"I have never listened to a sound without liking it"
What if you let every sound be what they are?
What if you are kind to a sound as you are kind to a soul?
What if you let them be?
what if you let them go?
What if there is no projection of yours?
And what if you are a projection of them?
what if, if you don't exist?
And just let them go?
And just let them be?
Let them grow into a flower.
But what if they become a river?
and without trepidation you just let the current guide you.....
A moment frames existence into nothingness
palpable like oxygen
submerged in sound until you wake up

Thrustfall

“It’s hard to believe that it is this quintet’s first performance that is captured on this recording. I hear a cohesive ensemble statement embodying qualities that so often take a long time to cultivate: compassionate listening, trust and fearless risk-taking. On this set, composed materials seamlessly dissolve into collectively improvised flights of fancy, going anywhere from dense sound collages to spontaneous ballads and everything in between. Each individual’s voice shines through, while a clear aesthetic thread is established through the careful selection of repertoire and personnel. It speaks volumes for Vinicius Cajado’s qualities as a bandleader, composer and catalyst for creating unique spaces for a free and open exchange of musical ideas. I feel honored to have taken part in this journey. Just as I felt when I was on stage with Nicole, Hana, Steve and Vini, I can’t wait to find out what awaits around the corner with this music.”

“Monu”
(get it on: https://urchinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/monu)
Monu is a picture album made over the year of 2019. Its intention is not to showcase virtuosity or break new ground, but instead to capture and translate a series of moments and strong feelings, ranging from despair and emptiness to passion and bliss. Every single composition on the record is free improvised, never thought of before, and just played once, (with the exception of “Szechuan Pepper” and “Summer Loop Pt. 2” in which every line was played just once). I left the recording on, and from time to time I would stop by and play for a few minutes trying to translate what was in my heart at that specific moment. Different microphones and basses were used, so every track has a unique configuration that gives it its own color palette, taste, feel, texture, etc... This dramatically influenced the process of spontaneous composition. Accidents sometimes became ideas, which became sections, and sometimes even full compositions. This record is deeply personal; a sound letter to the things that words and gestures cannot explain

UNI
(get it on: https://urchinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/uni)
Vinicius Cajado & Kenji Herbert duo, is an improvised set recorded late at night at the Judson Memorial Church in NYC in early 2019. Fluidity, communication and a sympatico rooted in a shared musical heritage and vision shine through on this recording. Playfully exploring the full sonic potential of their respective instruments, double bass and electric guitar; their dialogue is a fine balancing act between intellect and instinct, noise and compositional integrity. Uni is a fruitful meditation on what can still be explored and expressed by improvising musicians of the 21st century.
